This is a message to my friends who are working so hard and so diligently to get Barack Obama elected as the next President:

I realize that there are hundreds of people who think they know how to do your job better than you do. And I understand that because you are doing such a good job that you feel that you don't require any outside advice.

I felt that way about my own work, until one day, I was sharing lunch with a friend of mine in a Chinese restaurant and she gave me a simple idea that revolutionized my business and made me infinitely more successful. She told me to take an hour and walk out in the park. Find a comfortable place, sit quietly, and think about this:

"You can't see what's on the roof from inside the house."

I told her she was crazy and that I didn't have time for foolishness. She replied with a smile and said, "You've just demonstrated the heart of what I just told you."

My mind went into even more confusion when she picked up the pot of tea that came with our meal and poured tea into my cup until it was spilling over into the table. When I said, "Stop, the cup is full," she smiled and kept on pouring. When I started to get upset, she said, "You are that tea cup. You are so full of yourself there no room for anything new. Take that to the park with you, also." When I asked for an explanation, her only reply was, "Take it to the park." Two days later, I actually did "take it to the park."

Soon after that incident, I decided to do something that, for me, was revolutionary. I asked my assistant to set up a team of associates whose job is to solicit, review, and evaluate new ideas. I instructed them to look for anybody and everybody both inside and outside the company who was willing to share their thoughts with us. The results have been extraordinary. In less that three months, I realized that Einstein meant when he said, "I now realize that I know nothing."

So today, I invite you to apply this idea to getting our favorite political candidate elected. The tea story was my friend's expression of an ancient Sufi story and the concept of seeking input from others is from a very successful Japanese concept developed by Toyota as part of its reconstruction process following WWII. It's called Kaizen.²

If you are not applying these principle to the 2008 election, you're missing some major opportunities. There are ideas, techniques, and methods of behavior floating around that one simply cannot see from an active position inside of any process.

Regarding the present political process, we have listed a few perspectives that we've happened upon -- perspectives that could make the difference between winning and losing. We are willing to share them with you.

A common sense guide to election 2008, election 08

Who is presidential and who is or was running for president? 2008 presidential candidates, Barrack Obama and state Senator Hillary Clinton, and former Senator John Edwards.

Running for President is Senator Barack Obama, representing Illinois, sometimes aka barack, barck, barek, obama, barackobama. Senator Obama is not muslin. Senator Obama has a wife. His biography is impressive. Senator Obama's full name is Barack Obama.

Running for President is political career woman and New York state Senator Hillary Clinton, aka hillary, hillaryclinton. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is the wife of former President Bill Clinton.

As a political figure now seriously considered for vice president, John Edwards, aka johnedwards,

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must consider: real world politics, campaign budget, campaign tactics, voter demographics, know how to get elected, political advertising slogans such as "Hillary Clinton for President" and "Barack Obama for President"

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must have: charisma, political dreams, a campaign, a presidential campaign, a strong political plan, a campaign manager, campaign financing, campaign money, a financial manager, ' how to . . ." information about politics, they must know how to win.

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must be able to frame a message , develop a strong and appealing political platform, be good at politicking, avoid promises they can't keep, and make only promises they can keep, talk democracy, overcome any lack of personal political experience with high-quality advisors, make good policy decisions, provide social benefits, support religious freedom, subtly step on their opponents toes, meet the people, know when to say, "Yes, I'll vote for this bill or no thank you this bill is pork barrel spending, or this bill is fraud like the bill to prevent voter fraud, etc. and the bottom line, Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team get elected

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must know how to: get attention, create sound bites, asses the political landscape, take action, make an impact, make impact in every community, have all the facts, face enormous decisions, talk political schmooze, relate money and politics, get elected, gain power, oversee vital change, support our military- bring them home, know when it's time for political retirement, be honest, be truthful, and not pull punches.

It would be nice for Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team to have a successful political career, thousands of republicans for Obama Clinton Edwards and the Democratic team, an obamagirl, another obama girl, and more obama girls, mayor support, money, campaign donations, governor support, constituents, the simplicity of Abe Lincoln's time, skilled staff to write petitions - position statements - speeches, success stories.

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must avoid machiavelli for politicians, too many campaign promises, rumor mongering, voter fraud, political corruption, truth spinning stories, scandal, dirty campaign, playing election secrets, parleying dirty tricks, combining religion and politics, playing on fear, claiming to be a political pundit, an attack upon the constitution, buying votes with tax dollars, accepting money that is from a questionable source, taking credit for other people's work, manipulating the media, excessively controversial tactics, manipulation of public perception, leaking stories, stories that spin the truth, and voter fraud.

Obama Clinton Edward, and the Democratic team must deal with health care issues, economy issue, jobs issue, schools issue, education issue, right wing voters, left wing voters, moderate voters, issue-only voters, dictatorships, ambassadors, the present administration and voter machines that frequently count double for the Republican presidential candidate, Bush who claims to be a religious president, controversial issues, raising money, holding power, hot button issues, forced motherhood / abortion, gay rights, lesbian rights, and spin doctors
